It seems Claressa Shields and Mikaela Mayer are just as upset as many fans that they won’t be joining The O2 tonight.
Both are set to be showcased at tonight’s BOXXER and Sky Sports events – billed as the first all-female boxing event in the sport’s history. After the traumatic death of Queen Elizabeth II, it brought other sports tournaments around the country to a halt.
Many in the sport disagree with the decision, which was ultimately made by the British Boxing Control Board, but the two boxers who will feature in the main event and co-main, while annoyed, understand situation.
In a gentle videoThe American couple summed up the feelings of most of the boxing community upon hearing the news, screaming at an empty O2 arena from their hotel balcony.

For a more serious answer, Shields was fine with accepting the postponement. She took to Twitter after the announcement.
“What can I say… I weighed 159 pounds today, I am mentally and physically ready for tomorrow. I’m sad the fight was postponed but I’m a big girl and I get it! The country of Great Britain has lost a lot of Queen Elizabeth and the country is in mourning, so does the world”.
Shields is looking to become undisputed in the middleweight division when she takes on Savannah Marshall. Many fans and pundits view the brutal match as a 50/50 fight.
Mayer, who represented the United States at the 2016 Rio Olympics with Shields, was similarly respected.

BOXXER, who is handling the broadcast of the event, released a statement yesterday Assuring fans that all parties involved are working towards a new date of October 15. For now, the tag remains the same.
