Shelter’s longest resident has been waiting to go home for 653 days
Julie, a graphic designer in Washington State, volunteers for the Benton-Franklin Humane Society. Julie meets the shelter’s oldest resident, Snoopy, an elderly dog who is deaf. Snoopy has been there for 653 days!
A year ago, Snoopy was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease which has affected his hearing and vision. Julie takes Snoopy out of the crib to play in the yard. She becomes attached to him pretty quickly but knows he will be hard to get. He is a happy, lucky dog but is overlooked because of his age and health problems. Julie says in the video, “He likes simple pleasures.” The puppy loves his toys and blankets, even sucking them for comfort.
While Snoopy has yet to find a home, people have come forward to donate things for his crib, such as a comfortable orthopedic bed. But because of his age and health, Snoopy is still overlooked by potential adopters. Although the vet said he would treat it well and possibly have a few golden years left, he needed regular vet visits and expensive medication. In fact, over the course of 653 days, Snoopy had only one unsuccessful meet and greet.
The puppy remains in the shelter without a home. Let’s share his story so that Snoopy finds happiness forever! For more information about Snoopy, click here!
