Shawn Porter beat Usyk in amateurs and now tells Joshua how to do it
Shawn Porter believes he holds the blueprint for Anthony Joshua in his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
The fighter known as ‘Showtime’ has not been seen in the ring since retiring after 10order round TKO loss to Terence Crawford. The 34-year-old has had a brilliant career, being crowned the world champion twice with a weight of 147lbs. In addition, Porter also boasts of a stellar amateur career, setting a 276-14 record.
It was during his amateur days that he produced one of the best wins of his career, as he rose above the current unified world heavyweight champion in 2006.
Talk to KO Artists Sports of the win over Usyk, Porter said:
“It was a man boxing, four rounds of two minutes. We fought on the computer point system. Most of you don’t know much about it. I won’t even try to explain it now. “
“It was very close, it was a two point spread or something, it was very close.”
“I’ve said many times, if I see that video, the first thing I’ll do is attack Usyk, make sure he’s okay with us bringing it out and try to figure out how to get both of us together. Make money put it off because it’s four two-minute innings. It’s fast, but there’s greatness inside of it. I promise you.”
With the rematch to take place on August 20 in Jeddah live on Sky Sports Box Office, Joshua is looking to refine every detail to reach Usyk ready more than ever.
As part of this, the Briton parted ways with longtime coach Rob McCracken worked under the guidance of Robert Garcia.
No one knows what will happen in Joshua when he enters the ring in just over a week, Porter explained how he saw Watford-born heavyweights win the competition.
“I think having Robert Garcia in the corner, it worked because Joshua has to attack in this fight. I think if he attacked and kept attacking, he would beat Usyk. “
“He is big and has some skills. I don’t think he can deploy his size with skill in battle. He tries to be skillful, he has restrained his attack and is clearly unable to use his size. “
“So I think for him, they all have to work together. He has to attack, he can’t be afraid of being hit, and he has to use his size, that’s it. “
