All fell into the right place of Caleb Plant.

Long before arriving in Nashville, the Tennessee native expressed his desire to become a world champion, and before the 29-year-old turned pro in 2014, Plant believed it was his destiny to become a champion. The first super middle class of all time.

After his 2019 win over Jose Uzcategui, Plant placed a check mark next to his first goal, as he successfully lifted Uzcategui’s world title. With the rest of his fellow champions spread out in various parts of the world, Plant was delighted when he sat back and watched Canelo Alvarez do all the heavy lifting.

With the 168-pound WBC, WBO, and WBA title track-by-table star, Plant found he was just one win away from having his confident prophecy come true. While Plant was rated as a significantly underdog heading into their November 2021 game, the slick 29-year-old proved he wasn’t over his limit.

As the two battled each other in front of a crowded Las Vegas crowd, Plant finally succumbed to Alvarez’s might through the 11th round knockout. In injury time, all three judges from the penalty area had already scored. their exams are very close. Jude Patricia Morse Jarman had the score 96-94, in favor of Alvarez. While Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld have 97-93 and 98-92 respectively, also leaning towards Alvarez.

Since Plant took the time to think about what might have happened, he was motivated by the closeness of their initial play. Now, when he tries to lick his wounds, Plant reveals that no matter who is placed in front of him, he will send them on his way to face Alvarez again.

“I want my rematch against Canelo,” Plant said on Thaboxingvoice. “If I need to beat every other top super middleweight in the league to get a rematch then that’s what I’m willing to do.”

The first stop on Plant’s path to redemption appears to be a confrontation with former title winner, Anthony Dirrell. Both camps are currently locked in intense negotiations with all indications that the pair will square off within the next few months.

If Plant gets a win, he knows full well that just getting one won’t be enough to get Alvarez’s attention. Ultimately, Plant believes he will need to claim the caliber of the much larger names in the division. The most notable is David Benavidez.

For many years, Benavidez has stood firmly in Plant’s path. While the former champion’s ultimate goal is to return to a rematch with Alvarez, he frankly admits that a bout with Benavidez is also at the top of his wish list.

“It’s a fight I want and it’s a fight I want.”
