The team said on Thursday Pakistan’s speed bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi was disqualified from the Second Test against Sri Lanka with a knee injury. The nimble left-hander Shaheen played a key role in the tourists’ opening win on Wednesday in Galle as he dropped four goals in the first half. “Due to a knee injury on the fourth day of the first test, Shaheen Afridi will miss the second Test, which will take place in Galle from July 24,” reads a group statement.
He will remain with the Trials side in Sri Lanka, where his recovery and initial management will continue under the supervision of the team’s medical staff, the statement added.
The 22-year-old Shaheen, who has had 99 catches in 25 checks since his debut in 2018, has led Pakistan’s pace of attack including Hasan Ali and Naseem Shah in the match that ended on a tense Thursday.
The inaugural person Abdullah Shafique went undefeated 160 to trail Pakistan’s 342 record at Galle International Stadium to take a two-game lead 1-0.
