SF MedSpa Epi Center (The OG) 25th Anniversary

The term medspa has gained popularity over the years. In almost every corner of the world, this moniker has become a beacon of hope for those looking for rejuvenation and confidence. It’s a powerful label that signifies authority and professionalism, and thanks to Margaret Mitchell of San Francisco and her business partner, world-renowned dermatologist Patrick Bitter, Sr., MD, it has into our beauty language.

Mitchell and Bitter coined the now popular term 25 years ago by combining the words ‘medical’ and ‘spa’ to most accurately describe the services offered at their dermatology office in London. San Francisco Epi MedSpa . Center: Botox®, fillers, photofacial, microneedling, CoolSculpting®, tattoo and hair removal, Morpheus8, chemical peels and medically supervised weight loss and leg vein treatments. Bitter, a cosmetic dermatologist in Silicon Valley who invented the famous product photoFace procedure, and Mitchell, a businesswoman and skilled medical office administrator, joined forces in 1998, just as the industry was gaining popularity.

Margaret Mitchell & Dr. Patrick Bitter, Sr.

You and your founding partner coined the term medspa, which is now commonly used by industry professionals. How do you feel having revolutionized the industry’s vernacular?

It’s funny to be in another country and see the medspa on the sign. Initially, we were going to trademark the phrase in our own name, but when other people started calling to ask if they could use the brand name ‘medspa’, we decided that we We’ll see how far this name goes.

You were named national ‘Med Spa of the Year’ in 2010 by spa magazine. How has that scandal affected your business?

It’s always good to be named “Best” or “Top”. This type of advertising lends credibility.

Just like in the world of technology, advancements are constantly being made in the personal care field. What are some of the changes you have seen over the years in regards to cosmetic treatments?

The changes I’ve seen with laser, RF and IPL devices are the speed at which treatments are delivered and treatments that are less painful. In the world of dermal fillers, where there used to be two or three types of fillers, there are now 12 types of fillers to choose from depending on the area you want to treat.

Cosmetic enhancement is no longer just for people who solve specific ‘problems’. A group of young customers have embraced the idea of ’preventive’ treatments. What do you think about this?

This actually started 25 years ago when laser hair removal and microdermabrasion were approved by the FDA and medical centers started opening. Now, young people tackle aging just like they do with hair with conventional Botox, HydraFacial treatments, and treatments that address symptoms like acne or rosacea. ban for example.

Younger clients are also more open about performing procedures, making the practice less ‘taboo’ or more secret. For example, lip fillers are becoming as familiar as applying lip gloss. How does this frankness open the door for others to freely experiment with their looks?

Instagram has really helped the industry posted by young people.

At the same time, many customers continue to demand absolute privacy. How do you react when you meet customers in public?

My job is to keep my clients’ private lives private. So, for example, at events, I stand back; I won’t start a conversation unless I know unless I’m invited.

What are some low-risk treatments or procedures that a beginner can try? Where is a good place for a ‘beginner’ to start?

Botox, MicroNeedling, and PhotoFacials are great starter treatments.

If a client signs up for a treatment with you, what kind of service can they expect – from start to finish?

We have developed a program called Center on You so that each person who comes to the medspa will receive a customized treatment plan to follow based on their skin type, symptoms and budget. Everyone is treated like a VIP. Our Union Square office, led by attentive and empathetic staff, is warm and engaging. We do our best to make our customers comfortable.

What could be considered a ‘value for money’ treatment—a quick and painless procedure that makes a dramatic difference?

Can you share your thoughts on the importance of a healthy lifestyle in maintaining your appearance and mental health?

A healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally is most important. Our bodies simply function better when we are happy. So many women want to be confident with their looks. We can help them with that. Confidence is one of the most important attitudes people can feel about themselves. It is the moments when our patients look at themselves in the mirror with joy after the procedure that gives me such joy.
