A British Army veteran has been killed and a second British man is missing after they are believed to have traveled to Ukraine to fight against Russian forces.
Scott Sibley, 36, is the first British citizen to be confirmed dead in the war.
A friend described him as the bravest person he knew. Another said he had a “wicked sense of humour”.
It is not clear when he was killed but it is believed to have happened a few days ago in southern or eastern Ukraine.
It is also unconfirmed why they are in Ukraine. A spokesman for the International Corps, which includes foreign fighters in the country, declined to comment.
Sky News has chosen not to name the missing man. The families of both British nationals have been informed of the situation and are being supported by the Foreign Office.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) did not provide any details about what these men did in Ukraine.
An FCDO spokesman said: “We can confirm that a British citizen has been killed in Ukraine and is supporting their family.”
Mr Sibley served in the Royal Logistics Corps.
His former unit paid tribute to him on the official Facebook page following the news of his death, saying he “shown the Commando spirit to the very end”.

A GoFundMe page set up to help cover funeral costs says Mr Sibley is a father.
His friend Craig, who created the site, writes: “For me he is a friend like no other and the bravest person I am happy to know, he is as good as a brother. with me.
“His life may have been short but he lived it to the fullest and did things the Sibs way, until the end.”

Regarding the second British man, an FCDO spokesman said: “We are aware of a British national who is missing in Ukraine and is supporting their family. We are urgently seeking more information.” .
