The date of the Queen’s funeral will be a bank holiday, it has been confirmed.
King Charles III Order approved today at St James’s Palace in London when he was officially declared head of state in a historic televised ceremony for the first time.
The date of the Queen’s state funeral is yet to be confirmed, but is expected to take place on Monday 19 September at Westminster Abbey in central London.

The announcement means that on the day of the Queen’s funeral, schools, most businesses and many shops will be closed.
There are thought to be plans to have the Queen’s casket loaded onto a gun carriage to the monastery, and troops are expected to line the streets and also take part in a procession on the day of national mourning.
There are usually eight annual bank holidays for workers in England and Wales, while those in Scotland typically have nine or ten – depending on the time of New Year and the patron saint’s day.
Earlier this year there was another bank holiday on Friday 3 June 2022 to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The UK is currently in the second day of a 10-day period of national mourning to mark the date of the Queen’s death.

The government has issued guidance stating that there is no need for businesses to close or Sports events will be canceled for the time being.
The guidance adds that some business owners and event organizers may want to consider closing or postponing activities, especially on the day of the funeral.
Buckingham Palace announced the period of royal mourning will be held until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.
This will be followed by all members of the royal family, household staff and representatives of the royal family when performing official duties.
