If you are a Discover credit cardholder and Amazon Shoppers, you may be in luck. That’s because the online retailer is currently running a promotion that can save you money on many products sold by Amazon when you use cashback from certain Discover cards.
Depending on the offer you target, you can get up to 40% off, save up to $20 at Amazon. Other cardholders are getting 30% off on savings of up to $15, $10 off on $50 purchases, or other offers.
If you’re eligible for any of these offers, you’ll need to use Discover’s cashback to pay for at least part of your account. Amazon Buy at checkout to activate the discount. You can use the offer at any time before it expires on April 7, 2023.
First, though, you need to take a few steps to really lock in the savings from any of these offers, so we’ve put together a step-by-step guide to make sure you’re getting every penny.
For starters, to potentially be targeted for this promotion, you must have a Discover credit card. These include Discover it® Cashbackthe Discover it® Miles and Discover it® Chrome.
If you have one of these cards but haven’t connected the Discover card to Amazon account, you will need link your two accounts. Sign in to Amazon and add your Discover card as a payment method, then find the “Shop with Points” subscription option under the “Your Account” tab (or click here to go to Shopping with Points). On the next screen, click the “Sign Up” button for the Discover card you just added.
Once your account is linked, you will need to Click here to check if you are eligible for the offer. Because these are targeted promotions, you may see a message saying you’re ineligible, even if you have a Discover card connected to your Amazon account. But if you just signed up to “Shopping with points,” you may have to wait 24 hours for your Amazon profile to refresh before you can view the offer.
If you are eligible, make sure to activate your offer by clicking the “Activate Promotion” button. You can then shop at Amazon as usual, but during checkout you’ll want to select the associated Discover card as your payment method.
You will then need to apply at least 1 Discover cashback point to pay for your purchase to activate the discount. Amazon may automatically apply points to the full purchase amount by default, but you can change it manually and specify how much cashback you want to apply to your purchase — as little as 1 cent if you want. The rest can then be paid with your Discover card.
Luckily, you’ll get the same value in exchange for your Discover cash back at Amazon as you would get if you chose to redeem your statement credits instead. Basically, 1 dollar cashback equals 1 dollar at Amazon, which means you will get the same 1 coin for each point. This is a much better value than what you get when you use it American Express or Chase points, who often run similar Amazon promotions for their own card members.
Once you’ve applied at least 1 point to your payment, you’ll see the discount added to your order, but keep in mind that you’ll only see the discount on items sold directly by Amazonnot most third party sellers.
With a 30% or 40% off coupon, you’ll get savings on all the purchases you make until you reach the maximum savings of $15 or $20, depending depends on your offer.
