Lightweight Ryan Garcia returned to the ring on Saturday night as a 22-0 opponent was highly rated against 37-3-1 veteran Javier Fortuna. The fight is scheduled for 12 innings and is broadcast live as the main event of the Golden Boy card on DAZN. Garcia starts right off by launching his jab and sometimes straight on the first time. The second round was near, but Garcia proved to be the sharper of the two fighters. Apart from a few brief moments, Garcia and his jab took control of the third.

Garcia ramped up the heat and began to really attack his man in the fourth round, knocking out Fortuna with a gut shot. Fortuna could still go on, but it’s clear Garcia has his way. A smashing shot broke Fortuna’s corner in the fifth inning. The game’s veteran player quickly got to his feet, but the round went to Garcia. A bad one brought Fortuna down for the third time in game six. This time Fortuna didn’t get up. “He hit really hard,” Garcia said after the battle (and after thanking the Almighty). “He had a hard fist.” As for the future, Garcia has made it clear that he doesn’t want to fight at lightweight anymore… even though there is a man he wants to join. “I will pick Tank (Davis) next,” he said. “If he wants it, take it.”

There was reason to think ahead that perhaps Garcia was looking over Fortuna. Now that he’s easily been the best man, there’s no doubt that a Garcia-Davis fight is a great possibility for fans. Like Garcia, Davis is a sharp, thunderous puncher. There’s really nothing to really dislike about the possibility of the two men meeting in the ring in the near future. The point, of course, was that Garcia was a Golden Boy boxer while Davis fought under the banner of Premier Boxing Champions, a rival to the Golden Boy. However, if the fight is made, it will surely generate a lot of interest.

Earlier last night, 19-1th place Alexis Rocha defeated Luis Vernon with a score of 19-3-2 Luis Vernon by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, 22-1-1 Lamont Roach Jr won the welterweight bout 20-1 Angel Rodriguez via unanimous decision, and 11-0 flyweight David Jimenez won. Ricardo Sandoval 20-1 by majority decision.
