Canelo Alvarez’s 2021 fight with Caleb Plant seems to have been successful in many ways. Although Canelo was eventually able to stop the sly Plant late in the match, it seemed he was satisfied with other matters than the positive outcome of the match. As for the deal Canelo cut for the Plant match against the Top Boxing Champion – which showcased the highly anticipated event through Showtime Pay Per View – that also seems to have put a smile on his face. Canelo. Indeed, the biggest boxing star announced on Thursday that he will once again sign a deal with PBC, this time for a Pay Per View event in September.
Of course, this means that the redhead star will most likely face none other than WBC middleweight mogul Jermall Charlo. After all, the highly regarded Charlo fought under the PBC banner. Plus, despite being out of the ring for a while, Charlo will still be a challenge for undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo, who has the potential to bring in significant amounts of money and views. Indeed, the 32-0 undefeated Charlo seems to be a great fit for Canelo 59-2-2 at this point in each of their respective careers.
However, Canelo’s latest deal with PBC is said to cover more than a single fight. That means other potential opponents, such as the popular and hard-hitting Davis Benavidez, could also join in. Unless the legendary Canelo takes a lighter hand in September, this latest development will contribute to enriching an already impressive year for professional boxing. Not only will Gervonta Davis battle Ryan Garcia in a superfight in April, Errol Spence and Terence Crawford will battle it out in July for welterweight supremacy. There’s even a chance, perhaps not a great one, that Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usky will eventually meet to decide who will be the undisputed world heavyweight champion before end of year.
