Russia launched an overnight drone strike on Kyiv and the surrounding area after a 12-day rest, with air defense systems destroying all weapons on their approach, officials Ukrainian military official said on Sunday.
The country’s air force said the strike included eight Iranian-made Shahed drones and three cruise missiles that were shot down.
“Another enemy attack on Kyiv,” Serhiy Popko, a colonel at the head of Kyiv’s military junta, said in a Telegram channel post.
Ruslan Kravchenko, the region’s military commander, said on his Facebook page that three private homes were damaged by drone debris that fell in the Kyiv area, injuring one person.
Reuters witnesses heard explosions that resembled the sound of an air defense system hitting the target. There was no immediate information on the scale of the attack.
Kiev, the surrounding area and parts of central and eastern Ukraine were put on air raid alert for about an hour after 2 a.m. local time (23:00 GMT).
