Rural gas station toll collection, Tesla insurance, Model 3 subscribers, GM EV factory: Car News Today
Extended Tesla coverage and a new registration number enable Tesla Model 3 in May. GM may soon announce another electric vehicle plant. And rural convenience stores want to be charging hubs. This and more, here at Green Car Report.
Where do we put rural toll infrastructure? In congressional testimony earlier this month, it was made clear that Gas stations and convenience stores want to become rural fast charging hubs—With matching federal incentives, and of course reduced utility fees.
Tesla Insurance has been extended to five states—A Arizona, California, Illinois, Ohio and Texas — with driving during the time taken to be charged in all but California.
GM is reported plans to add two new electric vehicle-related plants in Michigan—There is a larger volume electric vehicle assembly plant and ancillary battery factory, thanks to some attractive government incentives. That would give GM more opportunity to build union-produced EVs that it shows are in the works as it pushes to expand tax credits on electric vehicles. There is no official confirmation from the company yet.
And we looked at two low-commitment ways to test the waters of electric vehicle ownership with Tesla Model 3 registration. For now, both are only available in California, and both cost more than $1,000 a month, but more monthly options are coming soon. _______________________________________
