Apollo Hospital, Bharti Airtel conduct the first 5G/AI colonoscopy trial

Apollo Hospital and telecommunications company Bharti Airtel have begun conducting the first trial of AI-powered colonoscopy and 5G in India.

The procedure is performed using AI on Airtel’s 5G technology, making colon cancer detection “much faster” and more accurate.

The test also uses Avesha edge reference applications on the Amazon Web Services platform to process data in real time, allowing for faster analysis.


Singapore Health Minister participates in large-scale public health research

A comprehensive population study of Asian-specific diseases has been initiated in Singapore.

The project is called The SG100K aims to identify social, environmental, lifestyle and genetic factors associated with common diseases in Singapore, such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer.

Singapore’s Minister of Health Ong Ye Kung is participating in the project as one of 100,000 participants who agreed to have their genomes sequenced and analyzed. Participants will include people of Chinese, Malay and Indian ancestry, who make up about 80% of the total population in Asia.

The SG100K is led by the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with the Precision Health Research Company of Singapore and the gene technology company Illumina.


Korea awarded the first innovative medical device certification

The Ministry of Health and Welfare and Food and Drug Safety in South Korea have approved the first three medical devices whose regulatory applications have been resolved quickly under a new customs clearance system.

Two of the devices are Welt and Aimmed’s digital therapy for insomnia, and the other is JLK Bio’s AI diagnostic support software.

At the end of October, the ministries officially designated AI/ML-based devices and digital wearable technology as state-of-the-art medical equipment, which is now eligible for expedited customs clearance.


First time installing NeuroLogica’s next generation mobile stroke device APAC in Thailand

NeuroLogica, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has begun expanding its mobile stroke device with CT imaging capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region with its first installation in Thailand.

SmartMSU with OmniTom Elite has been installed at Siriraj Stroke Center, Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok under the project Mobile Stroke Unit – One Stroke.

According to a press release, the next-generation portable stroke device supports early stroke detection by allowing healthcare professionals to quickly assess whether a patient is having a stroke caused by a blood clot or bleeding or not.
