Reserved for the 4th weekend of July in recent years, Rocket Mortgage Classic 2022 has been pushed back, and so it becomes even more important. Becoming the second-to-last regular season event on the PGA Tour schedule, Rocket Mortgage Classic will welcome players looking to make a late-season hit after season.

Led by last year’s PGA Player of the Year and FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay, the course at Detroit Golf Club is astounding. Along with Cantlay are rookie trio Cameron Young, Davis Riley and Sahith Theegala, who are looking to compete for Rookie of the Year.

PGA Tour veterans Adam Scott, Webb Simpson, Kevin Kisner and Harris English will also make the trip to Motor City. Simpson is of particular interest because of his place in the FedEx Cup standings as he came in at 125 for the week. While his ties to the Wyndham Championship are well known, the 36-year-old will attempt to separate himself from the playoff bubble before heading to Sedgefield Country Club for the regular season finale.

Other notables at the height of missing out on the playoffs include Jason Day, Rickie Fowler and Cameron Champ, who have all had disappointing seasons. However, as we saw last week, fortunes can change in just four days and Rocket Mortgage Classic 2022 offers a great opportunity for players to turn a mediocre year into a memorable one.

Let’s take a closer look at this week’s tournament with odds offered via Caesars Sportsbook.

2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic field, odds

  • Patrick Cantlay (10-1): Last year’s FedEx Cup Playoffs darling is still looking for his first solo win of the 2021-22 season. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the year, Cantlay reached a deal several times but was unable to close the deal on Sunday. Having lost a playoff twice, the American has six other top 10 finishes to her name including the last two starts at The Open and the Scottish Open. He usually thrives when birds are abundant, so don’t be surprised if Cantlay finally breaks through.
  • Tony Finau (12-1)
  • Will Zalatoris (16-1)
  • Cameron Young (20-1): Similar to Cantlay, Young has been on the leaderboards throughout the season. Despite not lifting any titles, he climbed to 19th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He now owns six podium finishes in his rookie campaign, including a T3 at the PGA Championship and a solo second at The Open. The 25-year-old has proven his game can go to any course in any scoring condition.
  • Max Homa (January 25)
  • Orange Davis (January 28): The defending champion went to the Detroit Golf Club to play one of the best golf courses of his career. Davis’ recent finishes include T7 at the Charles Schwab Challenge, T8 at the John Deere Classic, solo sixth at the Barracuda Championship and T16 at last week’s 3M Open. Successful defenders have been abundant in 2022, and the Australian has a real chance to add to that total at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
  • Adam Scott (30-1): The presence of the former Masters champion in the field is a bit difficult to tell you the truth. Take away four major championships and the Players Championship, and Scott has only played six times this season. Known to choose the schedule meticulously, the Australian must have liked his chances around the Detroit Golf Club and finished T14 and T15 in the last two major championships of the year.
  • Maverick McNealy (35-1)
  • Kevin Kisner (35-1)
  • Keegan Bradley (40-1)
  • Webb Simpson (40-1): The 36-year-old is officially the bubble guy joining this week in Detroit. This is not necessarily due to his quality but to the number of tournaments he has played as Simpson is only up 13 times in 2022. After recovering from shoulder and neck injuries over the winter, he arrives. Rocket Mortgage Classic for missing the last two cuts. Even so, he should be a contender as his game perfectly fits the designs of Donald Ross.
