Rivian recalls, fixes Bz4x errors, reviews ID.4 Standard and Niro EVs: Car News Today


Rivian has recalled nearly all of the electric trucks it has produced. Toyota has finally figured out why the wheels fell off the first EV in the US in a decade. Hyundai is demonstrating the potential of the Ioniq 5 by powering a hotel via electric vehicles. And we have the first drives of the base VW ID.4 and Kia Niro. This morning, we bring you the first two driving reports, both involving electric vehicles starting under $40,000. In a review of 2023 Kia Niro product line—Including the Niro EV — we found this lineup to make strong arguments in terms of range and efficiency numbers, this time with added refinement. And a short spin in the US 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Standard suggesting that the most affordable VW EV makes a lot of sense.

In the UK, Hyundai has opened a EV . Electric Pop-up Hotel. Called Hotel Hyundai, it takes advantage of the V2L (truck) capability built into each Ioniq 5, allowing up to 3.6 kW of power.

Just before the weekend, Rivian has recalled nearly every electric truck it’s built to date — including 12,212 vehicles delivered — for a potentially loose tether. The issue, which affects R1T pickup trucks, R1S SUVs and EDV vans, will require every vehicle to be inspected in person.

And Toyota has reproduce its electric car Bz4x, has been halted for months because of an issue where the wheel could fall off the EV. Toyota has ordered new hub bolts and new wheels for the affected cars and will begin repairing the cars in the US in November.
