Rivian R1S individual order times have been updated, but still on track to start shipping in January
Rivian says its electric SUV is still on track, with the first deliveries to some customers starting in January 2022.
That is despite some individual complaints from some Rivian R1S customers suggesting that order times may have been pushed back.
The source of the confusion seems to be the emails sent out this week, with a construction schedule for their vehicles. Some have posted on the forums that their delivery deadlines have been pushed back from May to July. Those posts were the source of the issue. report by multiple media outlets that the delivery of the R1S has been delayed.

That’s to be expected when translating a rough pre-production estimate of a vehicle’s launch into a tough schedule for vehicle construction and delivery. The R1S was launched alongside the Rivian R1T pickup truck at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show and uses the same skateboard platform. Rivian is building the R1T at its plant in Illinois. As of the end of October, the company said it had produced 180 units and delivered 156 pickups.
The R1S was always planned to follow the R1T, although delays due to factors like the coronavirus pandemic caused Rivian to miss its original late 2020 launch target for the SUV.

Rivian launched an initial public offering (IPO) earlier this month, but the share price has been pushed down somewhat by more recent news that Ford is going public. give up the plan to develop EVs with Rivian.
Rivian is said to be eyeing a second factory, maybe in Georgia. But it’s still working to grow the Illinois plant to fill orders for the R1S and R1T, as well as electric delivery trucks for Amazon.
