Taking the lead over Labor Day holiday weekend, California asked electric car drivers do not charge their EV in the afternoon after 4pm because of unusually hot weather and increased use of air conditioning. While overnight charging after 9 p.m. is still approved, it provided some awkward optics for California’s recent policy pledge to new all-electric car sales by 2035.
Genesis Electrified G80
In terms of product news, Genesis has announced the starting price for G80 all-electric luxury sedan—The price is about $80,000. It also confirmed extended US availability for that and its GV60 EV.
Lucid Motors of California has given some hints that the Air Pure sedan is about to be produced. That is The $88,900 version of the Air luxury EV Tesla Model S’s most direct rival, capable of meeting or beating the Tesla hatchback’s range with its smaller battery pack and lower price tag.

Rivian has revealed a Camp Mode feature that, among other things, auto level R1T or R1S so that the owner can sleep better. If you’ve gone on a car camping trip in the mountains, you’ll appreciate how this can be a game changer.
Geely’s premium electric vehicle brand Zeekr for China has announced that its Zeekr 009 “electric luxury MPV” will be the world’s first production model, available early next year, using cell technology. -to-pack from CATL, allow driving range more than 600 miles by China’s driving cycle.

Stepping through the industry news, there’s been a lot of manufacturing announcements this week — presumably withheld to ensure Congress passes the Inflation Reduction Act and future US sourcing requirements for The EV tax credit is part of that. Honda has announced a US battery joint venture with LG Energy Solution that will produce batteries for future Honda and Acura EVs. With a projected capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours – enough for hundreds of thousands of EVs – it will be huge.
Toyota has also announced a battery plan that covers production capacity for EV Batteries in North Carolina—And by extension, that shows Toyota’s future American-made electric cars. Then, over the weekend, a greater degree of commitment to electric vehicles became apparent as Toyota’s $5.6 billion investment in battery production across continents including converting two Japanese factories– including motor factories – to battery factories.

Toyota is also aiming to “build, install and evaluate” a 1 megawatt . fuel cell power plant that will look at how hydrogen could be used — possibly instead of large battery packs — to buffer the grid or help balance energy from solar and wind sources.
Bosch plans to build Hydrogen fuel cell stack for electrified pickup in South Carolina — with Nikola, one of its first intended customers. And BMW has already started assembling them in Germany, in limited quantities, for iX5 SUV powered by hydrogen fuel cell, with Toyota’s own fuel cell but electric propulsion components borrowed from the BMW i4 and iX. As other automakers shift their fuel cell efforts to large trucks, it makes BMW increasingly technologically superior.
SparkCharge charges on-demand, with the Now app
SparkCharge, has been providing EV charging on demand through the Now app, announced a new investment and continued expansion to 12 other California cities.
