Not too long ago, we wrote about the new 750cc class 750cc parallel twin Hornet engine prototype from Honda Powersports and was quite surprised at the possibilities that a 92 hp 270 degree parallel crank parallel can generate. Now we know that the Hornet engine was first produced for the naked bike CB750 Hornet, and you know what? We are still attractive.
CB750 (that’s quite a historically important name for Hondain case you didn’t know) was unveiled by Honda at this week’s Intermot show in Cologne, Germany and apparently Big Red’s attempt to grab Yamaha’s market share with the MT-07 and MT-09 models (and their cousin XSR), both of which have proven to be extremely popular.
Honda plans to do that through the use of its new Hornet engine, the obviouslybut also with conveniences like a 5-inch full-color TFT display and a 216-mile range thanks to 52 mpg and four– Small fuel tank. It also has standard ABS brakes, traction control, and user-selectable riding modes, all of which are nice to see on a bike at this end of the spectrum, although it’s worth mentioning not. Are there any sensitive Hornet systems.
The CB’s curb weight of 419 lbs is claimed to be decent but a bit heavier than Yamaha’s less powerful MT-07 (which weighs in at 406 lbs wet). Still, that power-to-weight ratio makes for a pretty interesting little motorcycle.

Gains but tidy
Has a three-tier design to help store more weights more conveniently, can safely support up to 1000lbs of weight, which should be enough for most people, has a triangle base for stability, and also features anti-scratch feet which is great if you’ve built your own studio or workout in your garage.
Other important features include a non-adjustable suspension, aside from rear pre-load, a 31.3-inch seat height which should make it medium-to-large rider-friendly and a whole host of planned accessories like luggage and various aluminum bits.
Honda will sell the Hornet as a 2023 model, but, weirdly, it has kept relatively quiet on whether or not the bike will come to the US, which, given Yamaha’s success with its MT range, seems like kind of a no-brainer, particularly given the fact that CB650R naked bike are getting a bit long in the teeth (despite having the nicest exhaust in the biz).
Let’s just keep assuming the folks at Honda have given us something nice in the form of the CB750 because it looks like it’s going to be rad.
