Rivian has appointed Frank Klein, a former executive at the Canadian auto parts unit Magna International, as its chief executive officer, at a time when the electric carmaker has already made Weakness in output forecast for 2022.
During her tenure at the Austrian-based unit Magna Steyr, Klein oversaw its transition into the production of electric mobile devices, including the production of the first device. tram made by a contract manufacturer, Rivian said Monday.
Previously, he held many different management positions at the German car company Daimler AG for nearly three decades and is responsible for establishing Mercedes-Benz grown in Kecskemét, Hungary.
Klein will be headquartered in Normal, Illinois, where Rivian currently manufactures its vehicles. Last year, the company said it would place a second US-based manufacturing facility in Georgia. Production at the Georgia plant is expected in 2024.
Last week, Rivian said supply chain issues could cut its planned output by 2022 to 25,000 vehicles.
Klein succeeds Rod Copes, who retired in December.
