Before their fight on May 21, Joshua Buatsi and Craig Richards did a great job building tension and anticipation on Face Off, a new show by Matchroom Boxing.
The two heavyweights meet at the O2 Arena, live on DAZN, in a clash that will see the world championship chance closer for the winner. During the build-up, the two men sat across from each other with broadcaster Ade Oladipo in the middle to question one of boxing’s traditional forms before a big fight.
Richards tried to win over Buatsi by claiming the Olympic athlete had an easier career than his own. A claim that the undefeated 29-year-old has denied. Buatsi plays cool, his poker face rarely breaks despite Richards’ stabs.
“I believe this guy has been taken to the world stage,” said the 32-year-old.
“So, [if] Are there any domestic wars that don’t go backwards? [it] will be Buatsi. He is put there to say he is world class. For every British battle I have never been credited. They all got good wins when I boxed and when I removed them I was discredited. I don’t believe they will discredit me for defeating Buatsi. ”
Buatsi’s comments and feedback were more like business, but he left enough on the table to display an exterior that looked like it wanted to do a job with Richards in less than two weeks. .
“They said there were a lot of options on the table. For me it is not. Spider is the name that comes out, Spider is the war being pushed. Buatsi said.
“I won’t run away from it. Good opponent and it will be in London, have a good dance partner. For me it is a good opponent that I am fighting, I have the same mindset and I will handle the business as always. ”
Richards fired on his incoming rival’s resume again, which led to a conversation between the pair, which began with Dmitrii Bivol’s former rival.
“He’s been playing it safe.”
“Guess there are no helmets. May 21, we find out. “
“The helmet is off, the real damn thing is here now. Your ego is your downfall. You believe you are something special.
“If you don’t believe you’re something special, what are you doing, man.”
The host then asked each boxer how they beat each other.
“Be myself,” Buatsi said. “Whatever I have to be I will be. Whatever I have to do, I am capable of doing. In that ring, I find a way, that’s one thing I know about myself. I looked at you. I have seen you. You know what will happen. I win this fight no matter how it turns out.”
“There are ways I can beat Josh,” Richards said. “But May 21 please adjust.”
