Review on Bird Buddy: Birding Made Easy

The main purpose of Bird Buddy is to detect and identify birds by its artificial intelligence. It does this better than Birdfy but still has its mix. I feel like hundreds of pigeons come to my feeder every day—in fact, maybe 10 to 20 of the same—and no matter how many times in a row it correctly identifies them as birds mourning pigeons, it repeatedly said that they were Eurasian or white-winged pigeons. At least these misidentifications are more closely related to Birdfy (they’re all in the pigeon family!), but it can still be annoying. I’ve had a few cases where multiple species have been photographed together and so far it has only identified one species in the herd.

One thing I like is that the app includes a list of birds that the object could also be, so you can easily find out which one is correct. If that doesn’t help, you can send it to experts to decipher. (I’ve sent some mysterious visitors recently but haven’t received a response yet.)

Bird Buddy makes bird play at home a joy. Not only can I find out exactly which species are frolicking on my balcony, but I can also learn about them right in the app. I learned that mourning pigeons often eat snails (yuck) and hoard their food (same); black-eyed juncos are not very friendly (sad); and house sparrows have great memories (I hope they love me).

You can even listen to their songs, which is especially helpful since video has no sound—video is a new feature that was only enabled at the end of my testing, and I highly recommend the feature. that additional feature. I can see it being a great resource for kids and people like me who are hungry to learn about their favorite animals without having to go hiking at 8am. with strangers.

I love the Bird Buddy app that organizes photos and videos by species, making it a lot of fun to review later. It also makes a game of collecting birds like Pokémon card. However, the way new facts are presented to you will quickly get stale. Your feed shows that a new “postcard” is waiting for you. Clicking on the postcard will show a cute animation before telling you what bird was there and allowing you to browse through a gallery that includes several photos and videos.

When there is more than one postcard, which is often the case, having to go through the animation every time becomes quite annoying. I wish I could set it to do it only for new species that appear and if not just let me know there are new images for those that have been found. I would be a lot happier if it said something like “add pigeons in your feeder” instead of having to open six postcards, each containing multiple photos of the same card.
