Let’s start with a question: Why you’re here? Of all the games coming out in late 2022, this is perhaps the most reliable, dryly predictable in form and function: Let’s Sing featuring Abba’s songs . Sure, you might be curious about the playlists or different modes in this particular entry to the long-running karaoke series, but as video games evolved, this particular number came to be known as ‘ known’ when they appear.

You’re probably here for the same reason we said ‘yes’ to code review: sometimes you just need something reliable and recoverable. Times are tumultuous and the unexpected offer of a night to wrap up some games with friends and family in a low-stakes, low-stress environment sounds like what the doctor ordered. For hardcore players, there’s nothing to worry about avoiding online spoilers or imposing yourself on a difficulty spike. Let’s sing Abba; it has great low maintenance and advanced as you would expect.

Launch the game and you’ll be greeted with several modes that will be immediately familiar to the official players of the series. ‘Legend’ features single players going up against Abba-looking folk (not a band, you know, just lookalike avatars that function as karaoke opponents) in mini-challenges where you sing a song. passages of the song, meet specific criteria for a three-star rating, and face the boss to unlock songs and avatars. This is where we spent most of our time, and it was a great time.

Elsewhere, ‘Classic’ lets you jump to any song with up to four players, ‘Feat.’ do you duet with your partner (AI ‘artist’ or second player) to explore your compatibility depending on your pitch and timing, and ‘Mixtape’ is good if you don’t If you have time or patience for the entire song – it will play out five fast-paced excerpts for you to enjoy without spending three minutes on a song. ‘World Contest’ offers online karaoke sessions ranked with leaderboards, and ‘Let’s Party’ is a competitive local team challenge mode for up to eight players (also playable when you’re solo). poison against AI). So far, Let’s sing. Every mode does exactly what it says on the tin.

Then there’s ‘Jukebox’, which just puts videos on songs you’ve unlocked on screen with lyrics – perfect background noise for UK exclusive parties where no one wants to stand with a mic but they will happily stare at the screen with drinks in their hands while realizing they actually know very few Abba lyrics.

In terms of equipment, any old USB microphone should do the job, but the easiest way to get in is to download the Let’s Sing Mic app and connect to your console by entering the four-letter code number when prompted after joining the same wifi network. Once we pressed ‘ZR’ to use the calibration tool, everything synced up nicely and we were gone. Any veteran of Let’s Sing will know that you don’t need to know the words, as the mic only detects pitch. You can have fun humming your way and be fine.

Even less popular songs you’re not familiar with don’t pose as much of a problem as you might think. You’ll run into problems if you’re into the whole song, but for the Mixtape challenges we’ve managed to fool most of them by doing that weird humming trick as you increase and decrease the volume. his area to move the dot like a Pong row and completely ignore the song itself. Only us?

A token progression system is linked throughout, and every mode has a complete bar percentage easily visible from the home screen. And if you’re not sure where to start, pressing ‘X’ will bring up a prompt suggesting songs and modes to tackle next – another example of how developer Voxler has cleverly avoided all worries. (in this case, Netflix-style paralysis in the face of a whole host of niche options).

Look playlists, it’s hard to argue with the 31 songs on offer, and anyone who’s ever thrown Abba Gold into their listening device will feel right at home. All the classics are here – Mamma Mia, SOS, Waterloo, Knowing Me Know You, Fernando, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, Take my chance, et al. – along with 2021’s I Still Have Faith In You if you’re a fan of new material, all accompanied by official videos featuring Agnetha, Anni-Frid, Benny and Björn… wait, it’s ‘AABB’. Huh!

Personal favorites include Did Your Mother Know, no matter how fun, and the disco genre Voulez-Vous, which we really maintained should have been a Roger Moore-era Bond theme. Notable omissions include Lay All Your Love On Me and I Have A Dream, which we can only assume will be made available via DLC at some point. Their absence is disappointing, especially if you’re not familiar with each of the other songs here, but the reality is that you’d be hard-pressed to find a more endearing selection of songs from a single artist. A person who doesn’t like Abba is just a person haven’t realized yet they like Abba.

Even with a few tracking omissions and a few odd decisions (e.g. not having single Joy-Con support means you’re forced to use both to navigate menus), which is a pain. when having to hold the mic/smartphone), it’s hard to get rid of this displeasure. The display shows the results when you finish a song that takes too long and can’t be accelerated with repeated button presses. Screenshots are off so you can’t take group shots – all photos in this review are press photos. Thank You For The Music is pretty bland. That’s pretty much the only thing we have.

So why are we here? To relax, forget about our troubles for a while, and belt out a bunch of classics – and Let’s Sing Abba really facilitates that very well. Question La vraie c’estosystemz-vous. We did.

Inference

As a group, Abba stands alongside a handful of the world’s greatest artists – The Beatles, Queen, and perhaps just a few others – with mainstream, cross-generational appeal to support a massively multiplayer musical game like this. We bet even non-enthusiasts will be captivated by the sheer power of this familiar and indestructible pop songbook, and the variety of modes here, mechanically designed over the years for the Let’s Sing series, offering enough variety to appeal to anyone who’s ever touched their feet on any of these songs, Voxler Developers are completely no chance here; Let’s Sing Abba is exactly what you think. And for that, we are very grateful.
