Retired Group 1 winner Artorius
Australian sprinter and double group 1 winner Artorius has been retired, the connection has revealed.
Artorius, who is coached by Anthony and Sam Freedman, has had 17 father-son startups and earned more than £1.2 million.
His final racetrack appearance came on June 24 in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot, where he finished fourth, three miles behind. khaadem .
Freedman Racing tweeted: “Following Artorius’ brave fourth place in Group 1 of Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes on Saturday, the decision has been made to bring him back to Newgate Ranch.
“He knocked out the winners of two groups of 1s after 17 starts. He took the whole team at Freedman Racing and all his owners to a great ride with the two in group 1 and two. We wish the team at Newgate Farm all the best for him and look forward to seeing his descendants in the stables in the years to come.”
Bought by the Freedmans and Julian Blaxland for AU$120,000 (US$82,395) from the Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2020, Artorius finished second in his racecourse debut at Geelong in January 2021.
He went on to claim his first Group 1 win in the Blue Diamond Stakes (G1) at Caulfield on his third start a month later, before clinching another win in the Canterbury Stakes (G1) at Randwick in this March.
