Regis Prograis defeated Danielito Zorrilla by a split decision to retain his 140-pound belt.
The official scores are 118-109, 117-110 and 113-114. Boxing Junkie scored a 114-113 goal for Zorrilla.
Prograis (29-1, 24 KOs) knocked Zorrilla (17-2, 13 KOs) with his left hand in Round 3 but had trouble delivering his punches from start to finish.
Zorrilla’s plan was to move her legs and throw punches from the outside, which worked. He knocked out Prograis with a kick in the opening half but the referee deemed it a slip.
Prograis stalked Zorrilla for most of the match but was clearly apprehensive about the strength of the Puerto Ricans and was unable to enter. As a result, he spends most of his time chasing rather than punching.
Two of the umpires were clearly impressed by the fact that Prograis was the aggressor even though he landed a few punches.

Welterweight competitor Shakhram Giyasov (14-0.9 KOs) of Uzbekistan overpowered Miami’s Harold Calderon (27-1, 18 KOs) en route to a decisive one-way win in 12 rounds. The official scores are 120-108, 118-110 and 116-112.

Mexico’s Julissa Guzman knocked out the previously undefeated Somalia’s Ramla Ali with a single left hook in 42 seconds in Round 8 of the 122-pound bout. Guzman (13-2-2, 7 KOs) defeated Ali (8-1, 2 KOs) in Round 5.

Regis Prograis is expected to defend his 140-pound title against the underrated Danielito Zorrilla tonight (Saturday) at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, home of Prograis (DAZN).
Prograis (28-1, 24 KOs) is making his first defense after winning the vacant WBC belt first stop Jose Zepeda in 11 rounds last November. Zorrilla (17-1, 13 KOs) is from Puerto Rico.
Card highlights start at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The main event will take place over two hours into the show.
