Stonestreet Farm announced Feb. 11 that Jess’s Dream , the first foal out of Hall of Famer Rachel Alexandra , was euthanized due to laminitis. The homebred son of Curlin was 12.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Stonestreet noted, “The condition came on suddenly & was unrelated to his retirement. Despite immediate veterinary (intervention) his condition deteriorated to a point where we were unable to keep him comfortable. He will be greatly missed.”
Named for the late Stonestreet owner Jess Jackson, Jess’s Dream carried high expectations from birth as the product of a mating between two Horse of the Year winners and future racing Hall of Famers. In his lone career start, the dark bay horse prevailed in a maiden special weight race at Saratoga Race Course in August 2015. He was one of only two offspring out of 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, the other being the Grade 1-winning Bernardini filly Rachel’s Valentina , born in 2013.
The estate of Harold McCormick bred Jess’s Dream in partnership with Stonestreet.
Jess’s Dream entered stud in 2017 and was retired from stallion duties late last year. He has 212 foals, of which 147 started and 98 were winners. Among them are Sweet Dani’s Girl, Intrepid Daydream , and Restofthestory .
