Reese Witherspoon and her husband, Jim Toth, are going their separate ways. A few days before their 12th wedding anniversary, the separated couple announced the “difficult decision” to divorce. Their announcement was made on social media on Friday (March 24).
“We have some personal news to share. We have made the difficult decision to divorce with a lot of care and consideration. We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for all that we have created together,” the statement read. .
Less than an hour after posting the announcement, the post has garnered more than 183,000 likes. However, Reese turned off the comments section.

Based on EVERYBODY, Toth and Witherspoon first became romantically involved in February 2010 after being caught out to dinner. In 2012, she said Elle in an interview that she met Jim at a friend’s house after breaking up with Jake Gyllenhaal.
“It happened unintentionally. This drunk guy hit me, made a fool of himself, yelled at me,” Resse said. She added, “Jim came over and said sorry for my friend, he just broke up with someone.”
The 47-year-old actress called Jim “a really good friend” for coming to the rescue of his drunken friend. According to her words, “That’s who he is, a really good person.”
In December 2010, Jim proposed and Reese accepted. A few months later, on March 26, 2011, Reese and Jim were married in California.
At the time, Witherspoon was already the mother of two children, Deacon and Ava, from her previous marriage to Ryan. Then, more than a year after their marriage, Witherspoon and Toth welcomed their first child, Tennessee James, in September 2012.
In their divorce announcement, Witherspoon and Toth agreed that their children and extended family were their top priority right now.
“Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter. These issues are never easy and extremely personal. We really appreciate everyone’s respect for our family’s privacy at this time.”
