Recalling Jeep Wrangler 4xe due to possible battery failure

Jeep Wrangler 4xes in the 2022 and 2023 model years have been recalled for potentially bad battery packaccording to the documents submitted to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In case you lost it:

For recalls, this may sound like a minor issue, however, like all recalls, should be rectified by the owner at the first opportunity. From NHTSA documents:

Some MY 2022-2023 Jeep Wrangler Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (“PHEVs”) may have been built with incorrect pins securing the 200 amp fuse in the high voltage (“HV”) battery.

The doubt period begins on January 10, 2022, when incorrect 200-amp fuse fixing pins are introduced into vehicle production, and ends on September 20, 2022, when incorrect latches is no longer in use. Suspicious populations were determined using vehicle production and supplier records.

Similar vehicles not covered by this recall manufactured before or after the suspect period, are of type 22V-768 (Z71), built with precision pins that secure a 200 amp fuse, or are not PHEV.

Often, what’s more interesting in recall reports is the chronology, and this one is no different:

• On February 2, 2023, FCA US LLC Technical Safety and Compliance (“FCA US”) (“TSRC”) received a report of a melted fuse in an HV battery. of a Jeep Wrangler PHEV 2022 MY.

• On February 20, 2023, FCA US TSRC opened an investigation after receiving a second report of a melted fuse in the HV battery of a 2022 MY Jeep Wrangler PHEV.

• On March 2, 2023, the FCA US TSRC received the fuse tray and battery pack tracking data from the supplier.

• On March 28, 2023, the FCA US TSRC identified additional vehicles affected by this incident.

• As of April 11, 2023, FCA US found no customer records, no warranty claims, and two potentially related field reports for all markets with dates received from February 2, 2023 to February 20, 2023.

• As of April 11, 2023, FCA US has not recorded any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.

• On April 20, 2023, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary recall of affected vehicles for safety reasons.

The FCA says it will notify owners starting June 16 and will fix the problem by replacing the fuse assembly or the entire battery pack if needed. Complete your withdrawal.
