Realism of FIFA 23’s new motion capture technology – PlayStation.Blog

FIFA 23 is on the rise, and EA is looking to not only make it the most expansive title to date, but also the most realistic. To do this, EA upgraded its HyperMotion motion capture system to HyperMotion 2 and improved its machine learning algorithm. Both tools collect and aggregate data to make virtual football as real as possible. Said data even comes from the team’s actual football matches in Zaragoza, Spain, filmed on Xsens technology. All of this works together to create the most visually authentic entry in the series to date.

Real football has brought to your PlayStation

FIFA 23 uses Advanced 11-v-11 matchmaking, which means real soccer players have come together for full-blown matches using the Xsens kit. This year’s match draws from two matches featuring professional teams, including a women’s match (previous series). That capture is then combined with EA’s new machine learning algorithm to bring the player and their surroundings to life.

Various visual and mechanical improvements further amplify FIFA 23’s loyalty to the sport. The player’s limbs now respond to the impact of the ball and the fully 3D mesh even moves when the ball or player makes contact with them. Other extra touches like new animations and (500+) crowd chants liven up the physical and emotional energy of a match.

Gameplay Formula Upgrade

HyperMotion 2 and the new machine learning algorithm feature various enhancements to the gameplay of FIFA 23. EA presented several features made possible by this innovative technology. Full Team Authentic Motion ensures that no two plays are exactly alike. Star-specific runs, improved dribbling techniques, female-specific animations, and left-foot movement are now possible thanks to these advancements. More than ever, football matches look more like real life.

More detailed and realistic animations lead to more depth and control in the game itself. For example, Power Shots is a new skill-based risk-reward mechanism that opens up another layer of strategy. To use them, you have to create perfect space and aim accurately, press L1 and R1, then shoot to activate. If done correctly, you can score with more power and accuracy. However, animations that are longer and require more precision come with a higher risk.

The defensive areas of the game are also not overlooked. You can lie down behind a wall to block low shots. New motion capture data also allows players to perform dribbles, physics, and heel hits, helping to counter attack possibilities, such as added firing patterns like javelin, backshot. and pass the ball down. There are even ways to get through, including bumping into a smiling beggar.

EA is aiming for authenticity with FIFA 23, and every part of the game works towards that goal. You can experience this authentic football game when it releases on PlayStation 4 and 5 on September 30.
