RBC Heritage 2024 fantasy golf rankings, picks, strategies: Will Zalatoris returns, Ludvig Aberg fades
Fresh off the first major of the year, many of the world’s best are back in action at the 2024 RBC Heritage. Play kicks off on Thursday from Hilton Head and many of the same golfers are used in the Masters will also be on the RBC Heritage Fantasy lineup. Of course, there’s green jacket winner Scottie Scheffler, who has three wins in his last four overall starts and is the 4-1 favorite. Others like Ludvig Aberg, Max Homa and Tommy Fleetwood are in the top five at Augusta, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be out as 2024 RBC Heritage Fantasy picks.
Homa, in particular, has struggled at Hilton Head, with a miss at last year’s event and a 41st-place finish in his other start at the course. On the other hand, someone like Cameron Davis is at least worthy of consideration for this week’s PGA Tour Fantasy golf picks as he has posted back-to-back top 10s at this tournament. Who else could be an underrated pick in the RBC Heritage Fantasy golf lineup? 2024 RBC Heritage Expert Picks
One player that Cohen is falling behind with his fantasy picks is Will Zalatoris as a serious contender at +2500. After missing most of last year with a back injury, Zalatoris dropped in the World Rankings, but he has climbed steadily over the past two months. He was ranked 54th in mid-February, but then posted top 10s in the next five events – including a ninth at the Masters – to enter the RBC Heritage in 29th place.
Additionally, Zalatoris’ greatest strength is its iron play, and Hilton Head is a course that especially attracts golfers with great approach shots. Zalatoris is eighth in the tournament in strokes gained: approach to the green, which will come in handy on a course with one of the smallest greens in the tournament. His approach game was elite at the Masters and Cohen sees Zalatoris achieving that success at the RBC Heritage. “I was on the Zal train, then off the train, and now back on the RBC Heritage,” said Cohen. At The Masters, he ranked 13th off the tee and fourth on the approach, and really had the numbers. Third lowest score of the weekend (-3) behind Scheffler and Ludvig Aberg.”
On the other hand, the golf pro is beating Aberg, who finished second at the Masters, with +1400 odds this week. He impressed in his debut at Augusta and will now play for the first time at Harbor Town Golf Links. However, Aberg struggled at TPC River Highlands’ equivalent course at the Travelers Championship. Like Harbor Town, the TPC River Highlands is a Pete Dye design, and Aberg finished 24th at the Travelers and was 10 shots behind the winner.
Aberg has also not shown stability on tours like other top golfers. Before finishing second at the Masters, he had four top-five finishes in official tournaments. However, he could not even reach the top 10 in 4 PGA tournaments after that top 5. Aberg is still in his first year as a professional and has a lot to learn about navigating the PGA Tour schedule, and with no previous experience on a difficult golf course, Cohen doesn’t consider the Swede is guaranteed a spot on the Fantasy golf roster.
