Raymond Ford on his controversial win over Edward Vazquez: “I don’t care what you think, I know I won”

Looks like this isn’t Raymond Ford’s night.

The highly regarded featherweight prospect secured a one-sided performance against fellow prospect Edward Vazquez at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona over the weekend. While Ford talked about a good game, it was Vazquez who sped up the fight and dealt a lot of pain to the 22-year-old from Camden, New Jersey.

At the end of ten full innings, Vazquez darted around the ring, convinced he had just scored the biggest goal of his professional career. At first, it seemed that Vazquez was right as judge Dennis O’Connell gave him a 96-94 score in favor of him. However, his moment of joy was short-lived as judge Rubin Rocky Taylor gave Ford a 98-92 score. Soon after, Chris Wilson also saw things go favorably on Ford’s side, taking home a score of 97-93.

After Ford was officially made the decision, he jumped on the rope, clutched his Continent of the Americas WBA title, and laughed at the crowd as they booed mercilessly. While those who believe Vazquez won their confrontation are right to voice their opinions, Ford simply couldn’t be more concerned.

“I don’t care what you guys think,” Ford said on his social media account. “I know I won. You are all listening to the crowd and stupid commentators. The boy fought despite, I restrained him with a jab. “

In addition to the Phoenix crowd that believed Vazquez had been handed a rough contract, Ford promoter Eddie Hearn also believed the 22-year-old was random that night.

Hearn said after the controversial result: “I think he’s very lucky to have made the decision. “I think the other guy won.”

Regardless of the general consensus surrounding this decision, Ford won’t lose sleep over it. Simply put, Ford is striving all the way towards a scorecard into the ubiquitous nature of the sport.
