Caleb Plant listens to opponents who doubt his ability in the ring. After a two-and-a-half-year reign as a super-middleweight champion, Plant entered the match against Canelo Alvarez as a substantial underdog.

However, although it was always suggested that he would be blown away by Alvarez in just a few rounds, Plant still achieved considerable success. The two entwined themselves in front of a large crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 6.

In addition to fans and media pundits that Plant would be defeated, Alvarez himself also looked Plant in the eye during his pre-match press conference and warned him that he was not “at his level.” me”.

However, from the moment the opening bell rang, Plant was more than what he was. For example, in an explosive streak in the tenth round, Plant unleashed a five-punch combo that clearly frustrated Alvarez. While the title holder would eventually lose the world championship to Alvarez through 11 minutes of stoppage time, he was proud of the brave display he put on.

Plant said in an interview with FightHype.com: “I felt like I went in there and fought a battle with helluva. “I won a handful of those rounds. Regardless of who you pick to win, I know I’ve won a handful of those rounds. It could be 6-4 either way, it could be 5-5 but I got cut. It happens in boxing.”

Although Plant believes he is fighting on even conditions in pounds for the weight star, the scorecards are a bit more favorable in Alvarez’s direction. Judge Patricia Morse Jarman gave Alvarez a score of 96-94. Dave Moretti and Steve Weisfeld, on the other hand, viewed their performance even more disadvantaged in favor of Alvarez, bringing in scorecards of 97-93 and 98-92, respectively.

Ultimately, to leave the MGM Grand Arena as the undisputed world champion, Plant desperately needed a knockout. Though he attempted aggression in the penultimate round, Alvarez made him pay.

With just over two minutes left in round 11, Alvarez landed with his right hand while Plant fought the ropes. The Mexican star will then continue his attack with a left headbutt. The power of the blow immediately gave Plant the first time in his career. While he would have stripped himself off the deck, the natives of Nashville, Tennessee were crumbling to the canvas, thanks to Alvarez’s onslaught.

Although Plant was very pleased with the results, he did not allow the first failure of his career to depress him for long.

“I just had to go back to the drawing board. I will lick my wound and I will be back.”
