Naoki Ikushima burst onto the scene in 2018 with the release of Square Enix’s HD-2D turn-based love letter to classic RPGs, Octopath’s Traveler. His beautiful artwork perfectly matches the diorama style environment and the characters are pixel perfect. Since then, he stuck with producer Tomoya Asano to work Bravely Default II and the latest game from the famous Square Enix maker, Triangle Strategy.
Europe’s Nintendo brought this beautiful videopublished last week, for our attention over Twitter. In the video, Ikushima draws the main character of the strategy RPG Serenoa Wolffort and his betrothed, Frederica Aesfrost, standing atop a cliff and gazing into space. The “sketch”, as the video describes it, is nothing short of stunning:
Triangle Strategy can be a heavy game, full of political struggles and tough decision-making, so this drawing will give the characters some light in the face of the approaching darkness. . We’re jealous that we can’t draw anything this beautiful!
