The wait for Bayonetta 3 once again putting PlatinumGames at the forefront of our minds and lately Interview with VGC with several members of the studio’s board of directors (including Takao Yamane, Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya) is showing that even the leaders of game design have hope for the next Nintendo console.
In a discussion that ranges from Takao Yamane being appointed vice president of PlatinumGames and CBO, to the disappointing launch of Babylon’s Fall, the VGC interview ends with a note about Bayonetta 3, specifically the challenges of designing a game for the Switch’s hardware capabilities.
When asked about whether the Switch appears to be an outdated console for game design at this point, Kamiya replied, rather optimistically, that he doesn’t feel constrained by its capabilities. Hardware:
We have the hardware up front, and whatever the hardware, regardless of the environment in which we’re developing the game at the time, we try to get the best out of what we have and feel good about it. heart about it.
This, naturally, led to a comment from the legendary game designer about his hopes for Nintendo’s next console, citing his love for the unique portability of Nintendo. Switches:
Personally, this is a very lifestyle hobby for me, but right now I find it really hard to really “sit” in front of the TV and play games. For me, I lay down and play the game in portable mode and I like the game that way, and that’s the biggest reason why I like the Nintendo Switch.
Whenever new hardware Nintendo decides to hit the market next, I personally hope that they still have this portable element so it can support my gaming lifestyle when I’m lying down!
With rumors of a Switch successor coming to us as thick and fast as a leaked Mario movie, it’s a relief to know that someone with as much experience in the gaming world as Kamiya shares our love. about Switch portability. Nintendo’s next console (‘Switch Pro’ or otherwise) has a chance to come in a variety of forms, but here’s hoping it can offer some sense of portability – even if it was just to please Kamiya.
It’s also somewhat of a relief to hear that even the heads of PlatinumGames are being kept hidden about what Nintendo is preparing in the hardware lab for the future. At some point, we’ll all have to listen anything elsethe right?
