My six year old has renamed over 150 Pokémon and the results are adorable
It’s not bad, but…
Naming characters is a notoriously difficult part of writing a novel, but for my six-year-old son, it’s obviously pretty easy, at least. when it comes to Pokémon. We went through a catalog of Pokémon Vivid Voltage card a few days ago, and to my surprise, he automatically renamed over 150 Pokémon. He really didn’t have many options, because he was too young to read on his own. I suppose he could force me to read the whole book to him, but that would be pretty boring for both of us. Instead, he did it his own way, and I know I’m biased, but I think the results are pretty endearing, even if (or especially when?) They move into the realm of the humour. weird potty.
Picasso once said that it took him his whole life to learn to draw as a child.
Freeing your brain from self-criticism and the need to do things the “right” way isn’t easy, but it’s the only way to come up with new Pokémon names like Cocoon Butler and Jiggly Horror . Let’s hope my kid stays young and wild long enough to watch a few more of these videos before the cold hands of teenage self-consciousness squeeze the innocence of his heart like a sponge.
