One week ago, ‘Marufukuro‘, the old Nintendo headquarters has been turned into a hotel, Open to the public. Based in Kyoto, the building is hugely iconic for Nintendo fans, with many of them posing outside in front of the old sign. That’s really where the company made playing cards and started exploring into toys and gadgets. So that’s an important site for Nintendo’s history, which dates back to 1889.
Now the hotel is open, YouTuber Cathy Cat managed to get a guided tour around the beautiful building. The tour guide took Cathy Cat around the reception and the rooms.
The hotel consists of four buildings. The front building is the part everyone is familiar with, while the second building – which used to be the office – is completely rebuilt. Next to it is an old residential building, with a brand new fourth building designed and built by Tadao Andoa famous Japanese architect.
One of the loveliest things about the hotel is the amount of old furniture they have kept and incorporated into the design. Things like office chairs and clocks that employees use to check in and leave the workplace are still there – and the latter still work! There’s even a miniature replica of the hotel made out of LEGO!
The bottom right image of the gallery is an absolute dream. Cathy Cat gets to see the Game Boy – in full action – and you can also keep an eye on other items like Mario and GameCube hand fans on the shelves. Not everything Nintendo is there, but everything in the hotel feels like a piece of history, respecting the past of Nintendo and Japan.

How many Nintendo points do you think that planter will cost?
There is a nice photo of the library, as well as the exterior of the front building and the plaque. This does not help our jealousy at all; we really want to go, but we’d better save the pennies because a room for two adults is about $700 a time. But it looks like it could be well worth the money.
