Radiohead’s surprising partnership with Epic Games is out now. The Kid A Mnesia exhibit is a virtual environment designed to accompany and celebrate Radiohead’s classic Kid A and Amnesiac albums. It’s an odd project, but it’s one that makes sense for a band that’s often experimental and technologically advanced.
They’ve also since supplied items and outfits for Rocket League, Fall Guys, and Fortnite, making Radiohead another franchise to take on Epic’s dreary inverted future.
Items in Fortnite and Rocket League are pretty straightforward, with a flag for Rocket League and a song to play in the in-game lobby and a custom loading screen for Fortnite. However, in Fall Guys, you can now dress up as the crying dinosaur from the cover of Amnesiac.
The Crying Dinosaur was designed by Stanley Donwood, a British illustrator who created all the art for Radiohead with Thom Yorke. As part of an exhibition of his work, Donwood is said to have once described the crying dinosaur as an interjection of original Greek mythology, “a monster aware of its destiny.” , his sense of isolation, his own confinement, and the disgust and fear he caused. all who saw him.”

I’m not a huge fan of Radiohead or anything. It’s important not to take themselves too seriously, and for all their flashy sadness, Radiohead really has a sense of humour.
But I also feel it’s important to speak up when things are. This seemingly endless trend of Funko’s popularizing every piece of culture, treating it as a piece of jewelry with no context but existing only to possess, is completely wrong. It’s absurd for Radiohead to get into it just for fun, but the broader trend is, my god, I’m so tired.
