Professor of Geology unexpectedly resigns: ‘I feel that teaching… is no longer worth my effort’

On Twitter, there is a raw public admission of why academia has declined less than intellectual tribalism, with ‘climate change’ at the heart of the issue. Dr. Matthew M. Wielicki decided to leave the University of Alabama, citing personal reasons, as well as an apparent increase in sanity and protectionism towards truth when it comes to climate science.

What follows is a series of collated tweets made by Wielicki in this topic – Anthony

Why I left the University of Alabama: Some internet investigators have discovered that I will be leaving my faculty position in the Department of Geosciences after this semester, so I thought I should tell you why. why. As with most big decisions, the reason…

…mainly individuals. COVID made me realize that we are so far away from family in CA and that our elderly parents’ travel is coming at a heavy cost. As a result, our children do not get to see their grandparents often. As a Polish immigrant, I know what it’s like…

… had to live away from my family and I started to resent myself for choosing my career over family time together. Furthermore, over the past decade or so, but especially the last few years, the obsession with universities and funding institutions…

…about the constant characteristics of faculty and students and, above all, the promotion of fairness in science has dramatically changed the profession of an academic professor. The rise of illiberalism in the name of DEI is the antithesis of the principles that universities…

…was founded on. These are no longer places that accept the free exchange of opinions and will punish those who go against the story. Even though I’ve been working since I was a kid for a Ph. and becoming a professor, like my father, I feel the profession…

…no longer worth my efforts. Contributing to this is the silence of the earth science community on the false narrative of the “climate emergency”. Members of the community regularly discuss the mental health effects of climate disasters but are reluctant to speak out…

…for fear that they would lose their positions and research funds. I will continue to objectively review the current state of science and offer my expert opinion through social media as well as a podcast and future books (hopefully coming soon). I appreciate all the support I have…

…received from followers here and community members (who will not be named). If you live in CO, get ready for the Wielicki Tornado! Excited about this new chapter in my life. #climate #wake up

Just wanted to say thank you for pouring out support.

We here at WUWT may have something to do with his awakening and rejection of the climate team. Note the highlights.
