Prime Minister Anwar’s daughter was suddenly braked on the highway – what does the Malaysian law say about braking?
We’ve seen this happen before – the driver of the vehicle in front of you suddenly slams on the brakes, and before long it looks like the road ahead is clear and there’s no good reason for them to suddenly reduce speed. In essence, this was situations to be faced by Nurul Ilham Anwar, daughter of Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Called brake testing, the sudden act of slamming the brakes in cases like these has less to do with making sure one’s car’s brakes are working properly and more likely to have something to do with the act of paying off. chopsticks towards other road users who have wronged or offended them in some way.
Although Malaysian law does not specifically address braking, it does fall under the category of reckless and dangerous driving, as described in Section 42(1) of the Law. Road Traffic Act 1987.

It states: “Any person operating a motor vehicle on a roadway recklessly or at a speed or manner regardless of the circumstances (including the nature, condition and size of the roadway as well as traffic). traffic volume is or may occur). is expected to be on the road) endangering the public shall be guilty and shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM15,000 .”
Obviously, brake testing is dangerous and should not be done, and misjudging by any driver involved could result in other innocent road users being lost to a vehicle. Control tones in the process.
Malaysian law tends to blame the vehicle behind for a collision, so in this case it was our responsibility to provide evidence that the vehicle in front was in fact driving dangerously.
Again, an activity camera journey would be valuable where a police report is made, which can then provide video evidence, especially if the following vehicle fails to stop in time and crashes into the vehicle under braking.
