For twenty years Porsche 911 GT3 RS The models have been organized as A benchmark when it comes to street-legal race cars. Every generation somehow finds a way to Go faster around the track. Aerodynamic, power, tire, suspension and technology tweaks continue to deliver the most powerful version of the The 911 moves closer to excellence. Each new version makes serious improvements to track-proven lap times, but is it a better car?

YouTube’s Vin Anatra recently took a trip to the Porsche Experience Center in the heart of Los Angeles to test this theory. He brought in the lightly modified 997 generation GT3 RS, which he considers his all-time favourite, to compare it with the newest and wildest car in the Porsche lineup, the GT3 RS generation 992. These are extremely different cars and approach speed in very different ways. Before watching the video, think about which one you would rather have.

PORSCHE GT3RS OLD vs NEW – 2010 997 vs 2024 992 – 15 YEARS OF TECHNOLOGY!

Okay, now that you’ve seen it, has your opinion changed? I know mine didn’t. I’ve spent a lot of time in a lot of 911s and the 997 remains my personal favorite. The later 991 and 992 feel significantly larger and more arcadey. Vin even commented while on track that the 992 – with its PDK transmission, launch control, track modes, downforce joystick and electronically controlled everything – “ it feels like it does things for you and not for you, but it’s very assertive.”

Porsche certainly knows what they’re doing in making these cars, as they seem to become more popular and more expensive every year. That said, I will always lean towards a car that demands more from the driver. I wanted the three-pedal, wheel-sawing, all-braking straight-line driving experience that 911s have always been known for. I wanted something that put sport into a sports car. I don’t particularly care about lap times, I just want to hear that clutch chatter.

What do you think? Which 911 GT3 RS are you taking home?
