Pretty Birdie is back running in Poinsettias stakes


beautiful bird get back on track after a 5+ month break and find a way to get back on track in the $150,000 Poinsettia Prize for runners and mares Level 3 and up Oaklawn Park December 17th.

Bird Sense’s final grayscale took place during Victory Ride Stakes (G3) on July 9 at Belmont Park. During that race, after fixing a shoe at the paddock and competing the first half mile, she stopped with three stretchers to go and went home 37 3/4 the way back.

When the daughter of bird song healthy, her game speeded as she put in a second-place effort in the Eight Belles stakes presented by TwinSpires (G2) and last year in the Schuylerville (G3) Stock.

Despite the morning odds of 3-1, the Norm Casse-trained Marylou Whitney Stables won’t be favorites. That difference belongs to caribbean capers who opened the score 5-2.

The trained daughter of Albert Stall Jr. Sightstown and Checkupfromzneckup, by Dixie Union, are no strangers to speed either. She won her first five races, the last one being at last year’s Dogwood Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs. Owned by Columbine Stable, she’s only run twice in 2022, most recently a fourth place appearance in the Thanksgiving Classic at Fair Grounds Racecourse & Slots.
