Good news for electric vehicle users in Malaysia – more DC fast chargers along the highway coming soon! Visible here is the new Energize by Petronas brand new 180 kW DC fast charger at the Petronas terminal at R&R East Gambang on the East Coast Expressway.
Energize by Petronas is announced in March 2022, in partnership with Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) and EV Connection (EVC). EVC is the company that runs the JomCharge charging app.
JomCharge now also powers List of EV chargers in the Setel . appso you can expect to be able to pay for these Energize chargers with Petronas through the Setel app.
When the Energize by Petronas brand was launched, we were told that the network would start with 5 chargers – one near Ipoh, two for the southern region, and two on the east coast. The chargers will be installed at strategic locations along the North-South Expressway (NSE) as well as the East Coast Expressway (ECE). It looks like this charger is one of the ECE chargers.
The 180 kW charger looks like it’s smack in the middle of two parking lots, so we’re guessing it will come in the same 2 x 90 kW configuration as the original Shell Recharge Tangkak station configuration. It will join the present AC charger 22 kW ChargEV was available there.
Shell Recharge has since reconfigured the Tangkak DC charger to 1 x 180 kW instead of 2 x 90 kW, presumably to allow Porsche Taycans to charge at higher speeds since the station was partnered with Porsche. launch.
