Seamless barrel lid is a single piece with quick release mechanism (inspired by sports car racing body panels) and door sills made from sustainable natural fiber-reinforced plastic (think carbon fiberonly with more laxative properties).
This design study pays homage to the 356 and the brand’s racing heritage. The black painted A-pillars make the windshield and side windows merge into a single visual opening that evokes the image of a helmet. The round headlights and rear grille surrounding the CHMSL are both inspired by elements on the 356, and even the paint color scheme is meant to go back to the 1950s, when Porsche said the gray scale has become popular with its customers. Porsche says the wheels are designed to resemble those of the 356 A and 356 B. The 4.0-liter flat-six engine with 493 hp (along with the rest of the powertrain) remains unchanged.
Normally, this is the part where we would know how many (or rather, how few) these Porsches plan to build, but for now, it’s still an idea — a rather complicated one. While Porsche has a habit of translating popular design studies into the real world (look no further than Gratitude to Carrera RS 2.7 was paraded around Monterey last year; it was then put in the order book as Dedication to Carrera RS), this will take more than paint and some custom aero bits to realize. Can it see life as a universal pack of gear and badges for the 718? Only time will tell.
