Porsche Cayenne EV confirms, brand’s sales will be 80% electric by 2030

Overnight at the company’s annual press conference, porsche says it expects 80% of all sales to be fully electric by the end of the decade, with the automaker launching at least four new EVs by 2030.

To make its EV goals a reality, the Zuffenhausen-based automaker has confirmed the fourth-generation Cayenne will be a purely electric model.

The new Cayenne EV will be based on the all-electric Premium Platform Electric — now known as the SSP Sport architecture — jointly developed by Porsche and Audi, and will also underpin the upcoming Macan EV, Audi Q6 e-tron and Audi A6 e-tron.

Porsche is expected to continue selling the existing third-generation Cayenne alongside the new model for at least the next few years.

A heavily updated version of the Cayenne will go on sale globally this year, and according to the company, the facelift will come in “three further developed plug-in hybrids with a greater range “.

The new Cayenne EV is expected to launch in 2026, and it will be the third of four new dedicated EV models from the brand, most of which will be crossovers.

The first new EV is the second generation Macan. Originally slated to go on sale this year, Porsche says development has now “goes straight to the house” and the Macan EV “will reach customers in 2024”.

Due to varying rates of electric vehicle adoption around the world, as well as possibly slow production growth, the current Macan will be sold alongside the Macan EV for a number of years.

Coming in “mid-decade” is all electric 718. Porsche says that “in the medium term, it will only be available as an all-electric model”, hinting at a possible future variant with the company’s signature boxer engine.

The 718 is said to have a battery pack mounted vertically behind the passenger compartment to replicate the weight balance of a traditional mid-engine vehicle.

While it’s not mentioned today, Porsche is also known to be working on a crossover larger than the Cayenne. Codenamed J1, this three-row EV is expected to make its global debut in 2027.
