Police shooting in Charlotte kills 4 officers: What you need to know


A shootout broke out Monday when a group of law enforcement officers tried to serve a warrant on a suspect in Charlotte, N.C., leaving four officers dead and four others injured.

The shooting, in which the suspect was also killed, was one of the deadliest for US law enforcement in recent years.

Police said in a report that a team of officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force responded to serve a warrant on a suspect around 1:30 p.m. declare. Eight officers were injured in the gunfight and taken to the hospital. Three people were pronounced dead on arrival and another person died from his injuries on Monday night.

Police said four members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force were shot and three of them died.

The task force includes officers from multiple agencies. The dead included two veteran officers of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections, Sam Poloche and Alden Elliott.

The US Marshals Service confirmed that one of its deputy marshals was among those killed. It did not identify the marshal.

Four members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also shot, one of whom died from his injuries Monday evening, police said. on social networks. The deceased officer, Joshua Eyer, Police said they were helping other officers apprehend the suspect when he was shot.

This is one of the deadliest recent attacks on law enforcement in the United States.
