Police arrested 13 people for drunk driving, 3 for reckless driving during street protests from April 15 to 17; 253 summons issued


The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) arrested 13 drivers for Drunk driving in Kuala Lumpur over the weekend, as part of “Operasi Samseng Jalanan, Op Motosial / Pelbagai Kesalahan” held from 15th to 17th April 2022 in the city center, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Raja Laut as well as along the AKLEH and DUKE highways.

According to the assistant commissioner Sarifudin Mohd Sallehhead of the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department, the drink-driving suspects are between the ages of 21 and 44 and will be charged under Section 45(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those caught breaking such violations under Section 45 will now be fined with a minimum fine of RM1,000 (all the way up to RM5,000) and/or imprisonment for less than two years. First-time offenders will also have their driver’s license revoked for a minimum of two years.

During the road inspection, the police also arrested 3 subjects from 16 to 26 years old riding dangerous motorbikes and racing; they will be charged under Section 42(1). Meanwhile, a 24-year-old man was arrested for using a fake number plate.

In total, 253 recall orders were issued and the police also impounded 12 motorbikes as well as 4 cars for illegal modifications under Section 64 of the Road Traffic Act 1987.
