Bentley built the Continental GT to pay tribute to the car that inspired it

Bentley is staying pretty busy with its tribute models. It was built one more year 2023 continent GTIn green trim, which is based on a notable past model. But don’t like Bathurst’s carsthis one seems to be Bentley only and it is based on a much older car: the 1953 R-Type continent.

More specifically, it is based on the 1953 Bentley Continental R-Type that remains in its historic fleet. It is a car bought by the company in 2001 and kept and preserved. The R-Type Continental is an important model for Bentley for a couple of reasons. It’s a compact car in itself like a coupe version of the R-Type sedan whose relatively light aluminum body and 4.6-liter inline-six can push the Continental close. 120 mph. But it was also an inspiration for the first generation continent GT launched in 2003.

So this particular Continental GT Azure delivers it all. It is painted Old English white with a Cricket Ball leather interior to match the white on red of the ’53 model. Bentley says the Burr Walnut trim with boxwood inlays has been lacquered to a natural finish to match the aged wood on the old car. And as an Azure, this Continental GT comes with a wide range of comfort oriented features such as active anti-roll bars and super-adjustable seats with massage. Under the hood is a standard twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that produces 542 horsepower.
