Video has emerged of a plane plunging into the sea off a California beach…right in front of the competition of 600 lifeguards.
The light plane plunged into the water, ending up perpendicular to its nose in the surf, before descending in the correct upward direction.
The collision happened on a stretch of beach, where about 600 junior bodyguards were demonstrating their skills.
Incredibly, the plane plunged into the sea between rounds so no one was in the water at the time.
Footage shows a uniformed lifeguard in distinctive red shorts diving into the water along with a lifeguard board.
Two junior lifeguards Jake Shaffer and Aidan – who did not disclose them – plunged into the sea.

Speaking to NBC News, Aidan said: “Jake said, ‘OK, run!’ So I started running towards the water level where the plane was and he grabbed a board.”
Mr Shaffer described the pilot as a young man wearing a flannel shirt.
The lifeguard said: ‘When he got on my boat, he had a small cut on his head.
“I kept asking him, ‘hello, sir? How are you?’
“We’re just going through this as captain about trying to get information about that person. What could have happened. He didn’t want to talk. He was sitting blankly at the board. “

The seniors asked the young people to stay on the shore while the experts ran to the scene of the accident – about 27 meters from the shore.
