Pit Bull refuses to leave baby in horrifying house fire

Times are tough for a Detroit family with four children and two pets. However, things suddenly take a turn for the worse when their house catches on fire, consuming most of their belongings and leaving them with nowhere to go.

Luckily, everyone in the family survived the fire thanks to a loyal Pit Bull named Blue. Instead of escaping the fire as quickly as possible, Blue stayed behind to make sure the firefighters found the youngest child in the flames. He risked his life to save the little human, so now he is the hero of the family.

A sudden fire

Janet Kelley and her family live upstairs in a duplex in Detroit. A fire broke out in both units when a child downstairs found a lighter and burned a mattress. Downstairs tenants rushed upstairs to warn their neighbors, but the smoke quickly spread to another apartment and the house next door.

At the time, only Kelley’s two daughters were at home with their uncle. The uncle and a daughter got out safely, but the one-year-old baby remained in her crib. Blue knows the youngest member of the family is still in the burning building so he refuses to leave the smoke. When the firemen approached the dog, he ran into the house and led them to the baby.

Kelley said: ‘He ran into the house because he knew Chantal, my youngest, was in her crib. “The firefighters had to chase him and when they got there, they realized what was going on.”

When Kelley and her When the fiance gets home, they are relieved to see that everyone is safe, thanks to Blue. The family adopted the three-year-old Pit Bull/Lab mix from Detroit Dog Rescue two years ago, and he has been loyal and protective of his loved ones ever since.

Seeking help from the community

Blue is a hero for making sure all of his humans survive this tragic incident, but without a home, the family has struggled. The homeless shelters don’t allow pets, so they lived in their cars most days to make sure they weren’t separated. The Red Cross paid for a couple of nights at the hotel for them, but they needed a more permanent solution soon.

Kelley said: “No dogs are allowed at the shelter and I refuse to leave Blue because God knows what my family would be like without him.

Kelley asked for help from her landlord, but they said there was nothing they could do. The family doesn’t have renters insurance, so they can’t get compensation for what they’ve lost.

So family created GoFundMe raise enough money to have a new place to live and replace all their belongings. The fundraising campaign has raised them close to $85,000, so hopefully they’ll be back up and running soon. Their current goal is to find a place to rent where Blue will be welcomed with them. They will never leave you after all you’ve done for them.
