Philadelphia will be the next airport to have a Chase lounge

Credit card issuers compete on many fronts, but one area that is heating up the most is airport lounge.

The 20,000 square foot concourse will be located at the airport’s Terminal D/E connector. Dana Pouwels, CEO of Chase Sapphire Lounge and Head of Sapphire Partners, said in the announcement:

We’re excited to bring The Club’s Chase Sapphire Lounge to Philadelphia International Airport, which will provide visitors with access to an elevated sanctuary to enhance the travel experience, with inspired details. Inspired by what makes Philadelphia unique.

Who will have access?

The new Chase lounges are expected to be available to both Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders and Priority Pass members. Priority card is a perk offered by a lot of rewards cards from a number of issuers, including American Express, Citi and Capital One, so it will be interesting to see if premium card holders from the banks whether others use them to access Chase’s new lounges.

There is no word yet on whether other Chase card holders, like Chase Sapphire Priority Card or Ink . Business Preferred Credit Cardwill have full access, maybe get some tickets once a year or if they can pay to get in.

Marianne Lake, co-CEO of Chase, said: “Travel has always been important to our customers who desire engaging and uplifting experiences. “We’re investing in meeting our customers where they want to go as more and more of them travel confidently again.”

bottom line

For many years, the network of companies owned and operated by Amex Centurion Lounge is the sole main player in the card lounge space. In fact, the Amex Global Lounge Collection, which includes Centurion-branded spaces, has taken home Editor’s Choice Award for Best Credit Card Perks at the TPG Awards 2021.

But there is little doubt that airport lounge competition is intensifying among the major credit card issuers.

Capital One has opened first airport lounge, operated by Plaza Premium Group, at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Capital One also plans to launch additional locations in Denver International (DEN), Las Vegas (LAS) and Washington Dulles (IAD).

For its part, Chase entered the ring against Chase Sapphire Lounges at — so far — seven proposed locations, in addition to the one currently open in Hong Kong. Thanks to the Priority Pass, more travelers can have access to these spaces, so we’ll have to see if crowding becomes an issue.

Let the lounge games continue.
